As the island’s only independent network operator, WightFibre will build and operate the future-proof, full-fibre, ultrafast broadband network that will bring the benefits of Gigabit speed connectivity to the island from our dedicated centre in Cowes.
With the network planned to reach around 50,000 of the 61,000 homes and business on the island, WightFibre is helping the island to compete globally by creating an infrastructure with unlimited potential for the future, enabling new services in the public, private and residential sectors.
We are delighted to be appointed as the main contractor for this exciting project.
As a company, we have worked with Virgin for many years; our relationship goes back to the original builds that started in the late 1980s.
We first started on the Lightning project in 2016 and have delivered a number of completed builds since.
Today we are delivering right across the south of England, from Burgess Hill to Southampton to the Test Valley. Our programme extends out to 2021.
Gigaclear is dedicated to bringing outstanding broadband to rural communities – bridging the digital divide.
We have been working throughout Berkshire since 2017 and expect to deliver the full project by 2020. Hampshire is next on the list, where we aim to start works on the first villages in early 2020.
By the time we complete this project, we will have brought gigabit services to over 80 rural villages and communities.
Following a collaboration between the county’s local authorities, supported by funding from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, gigabit-capable broadband services are to be built in key urban locations throughout West Sussex.
The network will be built, owned and operated by CityFibre. With no reliance on copper wires, pure fibre networks are the next generation of digital infrastructure, capable of delivering unlimited speeds in both directions in excess of 1Gbps (1,000 Mbps).
The new network will provide fibre connectivity to key buildings at locations including Bognor Regis, Burgess Hill, Chichester, Crawley, Haywards Heath, Horsham, Littlehampton, Worthing and Shoreham
This Autumn we undertake our biggest project to date: 107,000 homes across the great city of Southampton for TOOB.
TOOB’s ambitious roll-out begins in Southampton’s prestigious Ocean Village and plans to deliver the first homes by the end of 2019.
The initial project will take approximately 3 years, following which, we expect the area to expand further outwards to connect more homes and businesses.
Construction in Portsmouth is set to begin in early 2020, extending the existing 34km network, connecting public sector sites in Portsea Island, Fareham, Gosport, Cosham, Havant and Waterlooville. The rollout is expected to take 18 months to two years to complete with sites becoming live on the network throughout the process
